As we continue our journey in the PUA Mentorship program, we find ourselves at a crucial juncture where many of our learners contemplate the next significant step in their educational journey: applying to universities. Having navigated this process ourselves, we are uniquely positioned to offer substantial support and guidance to our mentees.
Your Role: We encourage you to use your experiences and understanding to assist mentees in grasping what different degree programs involve and how to navigate the university application process effectively. It’s essential to recognise that many of these students and their parents or guardians may not be familiar with the complexities involved in applying to higher education. Your insights and advice could be pivotal, potentially guiding a student towards a university education over settling for lesser opportunities.
Taking Action: Please take proactive steps to reach out to your mentees and offer support during this critical phase. Your active involvement not only provides them with necessary practical assistance but also serves as a powerful source of motivation and encouragement.
Logging Hours: Remember to log the hours you dedicate to helping your mentees with university applications. Your commitment is highly valued and greatly enhances the impact of our mentoring efforts.
Resource Availability: For more detailed information on degree options and application processes, please refer to the yearbooks available on the UP website. These resources can be a great starting point for your discussions with mentees.
Your willingness to mentor and guide our students through this pivotal stage reflects the true essence of mentorship. Thank you for your dedication and ongoing commitment to fostering the success and well-being of our learners.
I hope this message finds you well. Please be aware of the amendment made to the Mentorship Project Guide, specifically regarding awarding hours for the personal career reports.
Key Changes:
Additional Hours for Multiple Mentees: If you are mentoring more than one student, you will now be awarded an additional 2 hours per personal career report submitted, provided that these submissions are of acceptable quality. This change is to acknowledge better the extra effort required to manage multiple mentees.
Completion of All Tasks: It is crucial to emphasise that you must complete all designated tasks to pass the project successfully. This requirement stands irrespective of whether you have accumulated over 40 hours through your mentorship activities.
We encourage you to review the amended sections of the project guide to ensure full compliance and to make the most out of your mentorship experience. Thank you for your dedication and hard work in guiding your mentees.
Should you have any questions or need further clarification, please do not hesitate to contact us.
As you prepare your budget submissions for the JCP project, using the project guide tailored to your allocated program is essential as your primary reference. This guide will be instrumental in crafting an accurate and comprehensive budget for your group.
For your budgets, each member within a group is allocated R380. For example, in a group of five, the total allocation amounts to 5 x R380 = R1900.
Your budget should adhere to the KTG budget model, which allocates 65% for transport and 35% for materials and equipment. This model should guide you in allocating your funds appropriately. We encourage you to thoroughly detail the materials and equipment section by breaking it down into smaller expenses. This is where you can apply your understanding of your allocated program’s needs to determine the necessary materials and equipment.
It’s crucial to ensure that you fully utilise the allocated funds. Remember, KTG will directly receive these funds, so it’s important to account for the full amount in your budget proposal.
Should you have any questions or need further clarification, please do not hesitate to reach out. Direct any major questions to the Telegram groups and more specific questions to your mentor, or log a help query on the KTG website.
Please be informed that due to the demands of the upcoming EBIT test week, there may be slight delays in reviewing hours and responding to emails. We will be deeply involved in ensuring that all necessary preparations and evaluations are conducted meticulously to uphold the integrity and quality of our testing process. This means our availability to address inquiries and provide immediate feedback might be limited during this period.
Please rest assured that we will try to minimise these delays and address your concerns quickly. Your understanding and patience during this time are greatly appreciated.
As you delve into your final preparations, we want to extend our best wishes to each of you writing tests this week. Remember, the effort you put in now is the foundation for your future successes. Stay focused, believe in your abilities, and approach each test with confidence and determination.
If you have any urgent issues or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out, and we will get back to you at our earliest convenience. Let’s work together to make this test week a period of achievement and growth.
Good luck, and may your hard work be rewarded with excellent results!
We sincerely apologize for the delay in pairing you with a new mentee if yours is unresponsive. You may log hours if you made attempts even if they didn’t respond. We’re currently navigating the intricacies of obtaining mentee contact details, ensuring compliance with the POPI Act, and obtaining parental permissions. In the meantime, please take a moment to fill out the unresponsive mentee form (Click Here), and we’ll make every effort to match you with a new mentee promptly.
We appreciate your patience and dedication to our program.
Attention to all individuals who have been assigned to Mamelodi mentees,
We have become aware of a communication oversight from our community partner, resulting in the mentees not anticipating your outreach at this time.
Rest assured, steps are underway to address this issue. Following a meeting with the PUA, they will inform the mentees about the program and your roles in it on Saturday this week.
If you have already made contact with your mentee, please continue as planned. For those who haven’t, please attempt to reach out again on Saturday afternoon, once the mentees have been briefed.
Furthermore, next week, I will be launching an unresponsive mentees form. This will help us assign new mentees to those who require them, and identify reasons for current mentee unresponsiveness. Additionally, I will compile a list of learners who may not have been contacted by their mentors, allowing us to gather updated contact details for the mentees.
Your patience and understanding during this process are greatly appreciated as we strive for the success of this program.
Please check your emails for updated information about Saturday’s event as well as your assigned mentee(s).
Those allocated to the Mamelodi group, will NOT be meeting their mentees on Saturday in person but should make contact with them through WhatsApp or Email as soon as possible and complete the emailed tasks that have been assigned.
Those allocated to the Groenkloof group WILL be meeting their mentees on Saturday at the Groenkloof campus. Please try to make contact with your mentee(s) before you meet them on Saturday.
IMPORTANT: Please ensure you have all joined the Telegram group by the end of today. You can join here: https://t.me/+ND-Y0CtNY383ZTM0
As previously mentioned, there are no “site visits” for KTG. All the initial information you require for your project proposals was explained in the KTG presentation on the Friday of JCP week. If you need additional information, please look at the KTG website as well as your project guide. Furthermore, you do not requirea KTG signature on your project proposal. You should paste the KTG logo in place of the signature on your proposal.
Additionally, we ask that any communication between yourself and KTG be conducted through the KTG website’s contact form – on the KTG website dedicated to JCP, not the official KTG website dedicated to our stakeholders. Please avoid communicating with KTG through Edusource.
The KTG administration team has been instructed to ignore any further emails relating to the above information.
Announcement: The upcoming event on March 2nd will take place from 11:30 to 15:30 at Groenkloof Campus.
If you anticipate difficulty arriving at Groenkloof Campus by 11:30 on Saturdays, transportation assistance from Hatfield (Moja Gabedi) is available. Please submit your transportation request using the link provided in the project guild under ‘In-Person Mentoring.’
Please note that applications for transportation assistance will close one week before each event. Further information will be provided closer to the day.
For the project proposal that each group is required to submit to JCP. In the section designated for the community partner signature, you may replace it with the KTG logo (click here to download) and proceed with submission. Approval from us is not necessary.
